Unit Plan
Day 1: Students will be able to draw and use arrays for solving multiplication problems.

Day 2: Students will be able to review and learn multiplication rules.
Students will be able to learn the X0 and 1 facts.

Document camera to show some students arrays from the day before

Day 3: Students will be able to learn the multiplication chart.
Students will be able to learn simple facts of multiplication (0-5 facts) by using memorization, the chart, and fact triangles.

Day 4: Students will be able to review simple facts of multiplication.

Phase 1Phase 1: Reflect on Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge

1. What is my knowledge of technology?
We are comfortable using technology. We also use a variety of technology in the classroom for both preparation and instruction.

2.What is my knowledge of pedagogy?
We understand and stay current on the variety of teaching strategies to ensure students’ success.

3.What is my knowledge of the content?
This will be our third and fourth year teaching this curriculum. We have become more comfortable with the content and looking for more ways to make it interesting and meaningful.

4.Where do I see myself in the TPACK model?
We see ourselves integrating the model into our teaching strategies and continuing to use it.


Phase 2
1. Why should a technology-based method be used?

Technology is an interesting and engaging way for students to be a part of their own learning. It allows them to have hands on and interactive experiences with the curriculum. Technology is a tool that children will need to work with as they grow so it is essential to incorporate the use of it in their learning as well.

2. What problem would your team like to address?

We would like to address the problem of motivating and engaging students with the curriculum and concepts.

3.Does a technology-based method offer a solution with sufficient relative advantages?

Technology-based method helps engage students because of students’ interest in using a variety of technological tools. It also allows students to be engaged because they are exploring interesting topics by using technology.

Phase 3
1. What outcomes do we expect from using the new methods?

We expect to see an increase in student engagement and motivation. We hope to hear students’ excitement and interest in the topic.

2. What are the best ways of assessing these outcomes?

We will assess student engagement by a student survey on Survey Monkey online. (http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/VP5X5VC )

Phase 4
1. What kinds of instructional methods are needed in light of content objectives and student characteristics?

Some instructional methods needed in order to meet the content objectives and student characteristics are independent work, small group work, and whole group instruction. We will be using some hands-on activities with math manipulatives and interactive activities with technology.

2. How can technology best support these methods?

Technology will give students the opportunity to visually see the process of multiplication and provide them the opportunity to practice their math skills in a fun and interactive way.

3. How can we prepare students adequately to use technologies?

In order to expect students to use the technology appropriately, we can give demonstrations of proper use. Teachers can also model the use of the tools and/or have instructions on how to use the piece of technology required.
5: Prepare the Instructional Environment
Phase 5
1. What equipment, software, media, and materials will I need to carry out the instructional strategies?

The unit requires the use of the Internet, SMARTBoard, document camera. Teachers will also need math manipulatives, student laptops, access to sites like www.youtube.com, www.ixl.com, and www.multiplication.com.

2. How should resources be arranged to support instruction and learning?

We will allow students to work together in order to better understand and use technology. Some of the resources are differentiated for students in order for them to work at their own instructional level. Both www.ixl.com and www.multiplication.com can be adapted to students’ needs and understanding.

3. What planning is required to make sure technology resources work well?

Teachers will need to preview websites used in order to make sure they are working properly. Teachers will need to prepare SMARTBoard slides and links as well as setup the document camera.


Phase 6 6: Evaluate and Revise Integration Strategies
1. Determine how you will evaluate your instruction….you won’t be able to carry out the evaluation for
this project…but how will you go about evaluating your project?

We will analyze the student survey and take anecdotal observational notes from the unit lessons.
